Brief Business History: Weatherford Thompson is the second oldest law firm in the State of Oregon, and the oldest law firm to continue to be rep-resented by successive members of the same family. Weatherford Thomp-son was founded in 1875 by James K. Weatherford, the great-great grand-father of Michael G. Cowgill, a current partner. Weatherford Thompson is now in its second century of providing legal services to the community of Albany and the entire State of Oregon.

Marketing Niche: Weatherford Thompson provides a broad variety of legal services to the business community. These services range from setting up a business to solving the ongoing needs of a business, including representing the interest of a business before various governmental bodies and, when necessary, defending the businesses in Court or taking other litigation action to protect our business clients.

Business Philosophy: I believe that if you treat everyone with respect and work hard, your business will thrive. Best Advice I Ever Got: “Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” Mark Twain Industry Trend: The practice of law is moving toward the “paperless” system. Technological changes will make the practice of law much different tomorrow than it is today.

Future Plans: I am the newest attorney hired by Weatherford Thompson. I graduated from the Oregon School of Law in 2008. My practice will emphasize general civil litigation, construction law and general business.

Biggest Issue Facing Albany: A cooperative effort to put in place the tools necessary to attract new businesses and allow existing businesses to grow. With new and existing businesses growing and expanding, we will have new jobs in our community. These new jobs will enhance the health of the local economy and provide additional finances for government.

Why I Joined The Chamber: The Chamber provides me with many opportunities. I have the opportunity to meet the community and the community to meet me. I have a chance to learn about the individual problems of individual businesses, as well as the general concerns of business within the community. The Chamber provides me with the ability to gain knowledge about my new community.
