Ed was born in Livingston, Montana. His family moved to Oregon. He graduated from high school in Roseburg, Oregon. Ed’s higher education was all at the University of Oregon. While at law school, Ed was one of the two member law office team which won the Western Regionals and advanced to the National Finals. Ed is married to a fourth generation Oregonian and they have three grown children. Ed began his professional career in 1972 being employed as Deputy District Attorney and then assuming the position of Chief Deputy District Attorney. In 1975, Ed was appointed as District Attorney of Jefferson County by Governor McCall. Ed was re-elected to that position.In late 1977, Ed took the new position as Chief Civil Deputy in the Linn County District Attorney’s Office. This position is more commonly known as being the first County Counsel for Linn County. In 1981, Ed was asked to join the law firm of Weatherford-Thompson, and has remained. Ed became a shareholder of the firm in 1985.

Ed has served in many local and statewide committees. Some examples are as follows: Ed has previously served as the Chair of the United Way for Linn County and received the Volunteer of the Year award. Ed currently serves on two long standing committees, the Linn County Solid Waste Advisory Committee and the Linn County Law Library Committee. Ed is the two time past Chair of the Oregon Council of School Attorneys. He has contributed time to many other civic organizations.
